Roku revenue up and Hollywood renegotiating

And Threads gave us a "follow" feed

Welcome to almost-end of the first week in August. And this last leg of summer seems to be bringing good news.

Cindy Crawford + That Chick Angel = One Margarita

Giant Music

Cindy Crawford paid homage to her famous Pepsi ad in TikTok star That Chick Angel’s music video for her viral song “One Margarita.” The collaboration also allowed Crawford to show off her husband’s tequila brand—a win-win.

Roku’s Q2 Revenue Up 11%

Roku’s second-quarter earnings beat Wall Street expectations, but the company was still cautious about the state of TV ad spending in the U.S. given the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. But news of new negotiations between the parties to try to end the strike bodes well for both viewers and advertisers.

Pluto TV, in Australia

Paramount’s free, ad-supported streaming service Pluto TV is launching in Australia, opening advertisers to a new market. The “FAST channels” will include South Park, new and exclusive MTV and Nickelodeon channels, MTV Reality, Nick Classics, Nick Toons, and more.

Threads Gets a ‘Following’ Feed

Finally, Meta launched a “following” feed in its Threads app to let users see threads from other users they follow. This latest update could help Threads “further chip away at Twitter’s position in the market.”
